The Bulgarian Cultural Center (BCC) is proud to present 3 scholarships in the amount of $500 each for the 2025-2026 academic year in celebration of the 15-year anniversary. Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors and college freshmen or sophomore’s students of Bulgarian descent. The application deadline is May 31, 2025. Criteria’s that will be considered are the applicant’s prior academic performance as well as demonstration of community involvement. 

Submission Requirements:

  1. Essay or Video Topic: What inspired you to pursue your chosen field of study and select your educational institution? In what ways has your Bulgarian heritage influenced your educational path? How do you intend to apply your skills and opportunities to uplift the Bulgarian community through either mentorship, cultural preservation, economic development, and/or community engagement, etc.? Provide specific examples of how your academic journey and chosen field have or will equip you with the knowledge and skills to positively impact the Bulgarian community. 
  • Written essays shall be between 500-1000 words in length in Bulgarian or English.
  • Video content should be limited to 3 minutes.
  • Academic Transcript: Provide your most recent school transcript, including GPA, current school/university information, and enrolled classes. ​
  1. College/University Acceptance Letter: Applicable to high school seniors only.
  2. Achievements and Extracurricular Activities: Highlight recent accomplishments, awards, and extracurricular activities which demonstrate dedication to education and community involvement.  ​

Disqualification Criteria:

  • Failure to meet submission requirements.​
  • Incomplete documentation.​
  • Use of AI technologies like ChatGPT. ​

Scholarship Rules:

  • Must be a full-time student for the 2025/2026 academic year.​
  • Must be a Michigan resident.
  • Must have at least one parent who is a Bulgarian citizen or the applicant is adopted from Bulgaria.
  • Every applicant can receive a scholarship only once. 
  • If selected for a scholarship, the applicant agrees and grants the exclusive right to BCC to use the applicant’s name, experience, and status in BCC communications, media, and other published materials. 
  • BCC reserves the exclusive right to change or cancel scholarship including the rules, dates, and criteria without advance notice for any reason.
  • Applicant irrevocably agrees that all decisions and awards by the Scholarship Committee are final. BCC will not consider any appeal for any reason. 
  • Candidates agree that a generic bio of the applicant will be used for fundraising campaigns, which will circulate through BCC’s social media channels or emails.
