This summer the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit is teaming with City Camp, to offer Around the World Summer Day Camp. This affordable camp provides unforgettable experiences to Michigan children ages 5-13. A group of youth ages 14-17 years old, are welcomed as International Youth Leadership. Our curriculum is designed for all campers to have fun in an educational setting that will help them to think globally and act locally. Our goals are: 1) to help kids value and protect the planet, 2) become honorary citizens of the world, ambassadors of peace, and 3) to learn how to build bridges of harmony, unity, peace and understanding in our global community.
The camp is located at 13400 Oak Park Blvd, Oak Park, MI 48237. Parents and their children can choose from one week to summer long endless fun. Registration is available online at www.detroitsummer.com . The Camp starts June 18th thru Aug 24th,; Mon – Fri. 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. (Early drop off 7:00 am & late pick up until 6:00 p.m. is available.
Camp facilitators are trained educators selected from Michigan and around the world. Each facilitator will have intensive background checks and training. Facilitators are matched with International Youth Leaders (IYL) (ages 14-17) who will assist with classroom prep, camper engagement, and classroom management. The IYLs will be eligible to receive reference letters for colleges and university scholarships upon successful completion of the program.
All summer long, campers will experience fun and educational activities such as: Hands-on Global Arts & Crafts *FREE Breakfast & Lunch * Etiquette Training, * Cultural Presentations by International Educators * Folk/National Games, Music and Dance Instruction * Basic communication in several of the World’s Languages * Visits to Ethnic Communities, Museums and Historic Buildings * Youth Day at Belle Isle * Sports *Swimming * Martial Arts * Drama * Trips *Academics – Math, Science, Language Arts
This is an exciting opportunity for all campers to socialize, interact, explore and learn about our ever-changing world and partake in a taste of international ethnic cuisine which is included in the affordable price. Indoor/outdoor activities and trips including visits to area museums, ethnic attractions, water parks, horseback riding, and more make the summer diverse and fun. Campers who complete 5 weeks of this summer long camp will receive a certificate of achievement as Citizens of the World and Ambassadors of Peace at our+ special Family Fun Day at the end of the camp.
